Presentation Title: Safety Absolute #4: Lockout/Tagout & Controlled Circuitry

Description:  This session equips elevator industry professionals with the critical knowledge and hands-on practices needed to ensure electrical and mechanical safety in the field. Participants will learn how to comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147, properly apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, conduct test and verification steps, utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and prepare for real-world field assessments. The focus is clear: Work Safe to Go Home Safe.

Bios: 

Ray Downs career spans over four decades in Environmental, Health and Safety, Human Resources and Project Management. He has worked for TEI Group as their Senior Executive Vice President overseeing their EH&S program for 13 years and the elevator industry for 37 years. He has worked for Tishman Construction Corporation, an AECOM Company, Otis Elevator Company, Schlumberger Industries and General Motors. He designed, developed, and directed the implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety Programs for the Vertical Transportation Industry and Management System Programs on a national scale, area, and regional levels for both union and non-union workforces. He served on corporate and international staff, in diverse areas like environmental health and safety, project management, corporate auditing, training and development, budgeting, regulatory compliance, union negotiations as well as field test and verification compliance assessments. Ray has been a sitting member of the National Elevator Industry Inc., (NEII) and National Association of Elevator Constructors Safety (NAEC) Education and Safety Committees for over 25 years.
